Hyperbaric oxygen therapy in South Africa

چکیده
2008 Volume 1 No 2 Wound Healing Southern Africa The therapeutic range for oxygen therapy is an inspired oxygen partial pressure (PaO2) of 1.5 to 3 times atmospheric pressure (ATA). Higher oxygen pressures (> 3 ATA) are too toxic for clinical use. There are five groups of therapeutic mechanisms attributed to hyperbaric oxygen use: • Hyperoxygenation • Vasoconstriction • Neovascularisation (angiogenesis) • Altered cellular function • Pressure and gas gradients

Treatment of nervous system injuries by hyperbaric oxygen: a review of molecular mechanisms
Background and aims: The use of hyperbaric oxygen therapy is one of the treatment methods to treat many diseases and injuries such as decompression sickness, wound healing, carbon monoxide poisoning, thermal burns, and nervous system injuries. This article aims to review the possible mechanisms of the effectiveness of this treatment in neurological injuries according to the available studies...

متن کاملANZHMG statement on the administration of mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
'Mild' hyperbaric therapy (MHT) and hyperbaric oxygen therapy are easily confused. Essentially the difference lies in the effective oxygen dose. Oxygen is an extremely useful and efficacious drug in a wide range of medical conditions. MHT does not typically provide more available oxygen to the body than is possible with oxygen administration at one atmosphere (sea level), and there is no known ...
متن کاملStudy Of Interaction of Glutathione, Vitamin C and Vitamin E Under Hyperbaric Oxygen
In order to study the interaction of glutathione, vitamin C and vitamin E under hyperoxia (95 % oxygen) and hyperbaric oxygen (2.5 atmospheric pressure), 20 days old male Guinea pigs were fed with basal vitamin C free diet, while receiving a vitamin C supplement of either high concentration (50 mg/day) or low concentration (1 mg/day) for two weeks. Animals were than exposed to hyperoxia and hyp...
